A Thanksgiving Giveaway

***THANKS FOR ALL YOUR ENTRIES!  COMMENTS NOW CLOSED.

WINNER WILL BE ANNOUNCED WEDNESDAY, NOV. 24TH.***

Giveaways are incredibly fun to me – especially if I’m able to offer you something I really, really love myself. That’s the case this week!

Erin and Mary Jo are fellow ministry wives who have created the neatest tool for scripture memory. {Those of you in on the scripture memory challenge at the LPM blog know we can use all the tools we can get!} Erin is also president of Worthy of the Prize Sports Ministry so think spiritual fitness in conjunction with physical fitness. Their product is called Fit Bands. Essentially, it is a decorative wrist or neck lanyard with a set of scripture cards attached that can be used during a walk to have your memory verses at your fingertips without being IN your fingertips. I love it! Can’t tell you how many times I’ve tried to lug around my spiral notebook only to not have it fit in my pocket or then having to lay it down/pick it up from the park bench.

Here’s a visual for you:

fitband1

fitband2

The bands are available in many different fabrics that you can see here  or the girls do custom bands if you have team colors, etc. you would like to coordinate.

To enter, simply answer this question in the comments:  “What is your Black Friday Tradition?  Shop or Not Shop?”

The contest will be open until TOMORROW  (Tuesday, Nov. 23) at 10 p.m. and one winner announced Wednesday.  She will receive 1 Fitband and 1 Set of Devotional Cards.  The devotional card set includes 31 cards – 1 for each day.  On each card, there is a devotional thought, a corresponding verse, and a self-reflective question.

Have Fun!

p.s.  Please remember to continue praying for Randall and Jenni.  Update  here.

My youngest and I stay home and make some sort of gingerbread thing – house, train, tree, village – while my husband and oldest son get up and hit the stores very early!

Black Friday tradition – hubby and I look over ads on Thanksgiving day and decide if getting up early is worth the trip. If there are good sales and give aways, we get up early for the lines. If not, then we don’t go. BUT, the sales have to be REALLY GOOD for us to get up and out that early.

Black Friday tradition — me and my girls are up and out at …. around 8am. We try to miss the wild crazy rush and still get a few doorbuster sales. Mostly, we just have fun.

Absolutely NO SHOP!!!! Our Friday after Thanksgiving tradition is set in stone…breakfast out early and then on to the Christmas Tree Farm to get a fresh tree, wreaths and a stop at the hot houses to pick up poinsettias. The five of us go every year.

Our Black Friday tradition – NO shopping! Set up the Christmas tree, break out the Christmas decor, music, books, and movies… Make some Holiday Punch (equal parts gingerale, Fruit punch, and a heaping helping of raspberry sherbet) and break out the chocolates. Spend the day listening to Christmas music or watching Christmas movies while decorating.

My husband, along with his two brothers and dad, get up at the crack of dawn to be at the stores to wait for them to open. They love the crowds so they take the “lists” and get as much as they can find. All the women sleep in, meet the men for lunch, and then decide if we want to venture out ouselves.

Black Friday? What’s Black Friday? Just kidding. Are you kidding me? I attempted to shop Wal-Mart on a Black Friday many, many years ago and decided I did not want to ever do that again! So my Black Friday shopping tradition? No Shopping…stay at home in my sweats and enjoy NOT being shoved around by all kinds of people trying to get the item(s) they’re after.

For all those who brave the day, have fun!

I SHOP!!!!! Me, my mom, and my two sisters always meet up around 4 AM to get started and then we make the rounds. Usually hitting Kohl’s first then Target, but it all depends on who has what we want the most!! We plan our morning the day before, at Thanksgiving dinner… after dinner we gather all the ads and map out our plan of action =) We always stop at McDonald’s for breakfast halfway!!! I cannot hardly wait!!!!!

Tradition: My husband and I have our children make a list. We look over all internet/ paper listings to see if any sales fit what the need. Most of the time they do. We let the children go play at Nana’s that day and we are up 5 am and out. It’s so fun to watch my husband try to get in on this shopping. He hurries around trying to get to stuff before it’s gone. I enjoy it mostly for the laughs I get from him. It’s a special time we have together. If we don’t get the sale then it’s alright no need for the fighting amongst the crowds, but it’s fun to try.

Since hubbie went into full-time I have been away from home 7 years (as so many of us are), so I run home as fast as I can…me, my mom, my two sisters, my daughter, and nieces make the best girl day of it possible. We DO NOT leave too early…we s…l…o…w…l…y get dressed, head out for a girlie breakfast, then hit SOUTH PARK MALL IN CHARLOTTE, NC then head over to Northgate, then Concord Mills… I am so ready for our special day. WE eat lots of junk food, do a lot of people watching (my personal favorite) and get a few gifts. Its all about the time together…this will be our first Thanksgiving and Christmas without my grandmother…the Queen of pastors wives….pray for me :)

I shop!! My shopping starts around 11pm Thanksgiving night. My sister-in-law and I drive about 45 mins to the outlet stores and wait for them to open at midnight. When we’re done there, we usually hit up the other stores that are just starting to open like Walmart, Toys R Us and Target. So much fun! Although, Jack in the Box tacos at 2:30am are not so yummy. It was the only place open. :)
