Called Out: A Kick Off Giveaway

A few days ago Rachel gave you details about our fun new column entitled, “Called Out”.  The intent is to feature guest bloggers who want to impart their God-given wisdom in matters of life, church, and/or ministry.  In case I haven’t been clear, this is about YOU girlfriends! To celebrate, how about a giveaway from one of my favorite artists, EVER?

Back in 2009, I had the privilege of meeting Nicol Sponberg at a women’s conference in Granbury, Texas where I was teaching and she was singing.  If that name isn’t ringing a bell then shame on you and then think Selah – as in sister of Todd Smith and original female vocalist of the group.  Her music owns my iPod so to say I was a little nervous about meeting her would be understating it a wee bit.  Instead of finding a diva in the green room, there was this humble, unassuming woman who I adored instantly.  She and Greg, her hubby, suffered a devastating tragedy in the loss of their baby boy Luke to SIDS and the word I can best use to describe them both was tender –  but not fragile.  Fragile suggests weak but they are anything but.  Spending the weekend with these two has been a huge highlight in my life and I won’t soon forget it.

Nicol released a cd a couple of months ago entitled On Our Way Home.  I have a ton of favorites but “Downpour” and “Hallelujah for the Cross” are tops.  “Home” is intensely personal and is written about baby Luke.  Warning:  you will sob. SOB.  But hear me well, if you have a loved one who has gone home before you like I do, it is filled with hope only Christ can bring.

I am delighted to tell you Nicol has given me a copy to give away.  To enter, simply leave a comment in support of Evelyn on her first Called Out post, “Wai…ting”.

**Note: There was a little confusion on how to enter this giveaway. Comments are closed on this post because you are to enter through the Called Out link I provided directly above. Click on through or scroll down to read the post and leave your comment. I will randomly select and announce the winner on Tuesday. Have a great weekend!**

Called Out: “Wai…..ting”

*Note:  To celebrate our first guest blogger, commenters on this post will be entered to win a copy of Nicol Sponberg’s new cd, On Our Way Home“*

“Wai…ting”

By Evelyn Kay

Patiently standing at the front door waiting for her Dad to arrive is my 2 year old.  She’s excited because he has just called to say that he is on his way home from the church.  Considering the time of day, “on his way” was going to be at least an hour and a half, and she would’ve stood right there waiting if I had let her.  However, I convinced her that we could get her bath done and she’d still make it back downstairs before her dad’s arrival.  You can imagine the excitement when she heard his key turn in the door!

Waiting is no fun at all.  It doesn’t help that we go through our days with the latest, innovative ways to do anything and everything faster and better than the “old” way.  Waiting on an answer from God can be frustrating for most faithful Christians.  We want answers to our problems yesterday.  But, consider this:

“When I was waiting quietly for the Lord, His heart was turned to me, and He gave ear to my cry.” Psalms 40:1

This scripture reminds me that:

(1) He heard me the first time I asked.

(2) He hasn’t forgotten my request.

(3) I’ll have my answer when I’m ready for it.

(4) It will be worth the wait.

Just like my 2 year old finally got her big bear hug from her dad, we will get our answers to our requests from our Father, and they will be right on time!

Peace and Blessings!

Evelyn is a mother of four awesome children, the wife of a preacher and an elementary school teacher.  She is blessed and loves being a blessing to others whenever she can.  She blogs at Our Party of Six.

Things I Think About While Waiting on My Nails to Grow

Y’all are seriously cracking me up on all your confessions about the dentist. I laughed out loud at Vernie’s comment about actually biting hers! Vernie is one of my girlfriends who goes to our church.  She is one of the sweetest people and most awesome moms (of 3,  almost 4 girls!) you will meet in your life.  This is the confidence I have in her, if she bit him you had better believe he doggone well deserved it.   I don’t know what it says about me to be so oddly comforted by the fact I’m not the only one who has sacrificed her teeth for the greater good of her children’s.  And did y’all see Sue’s praise about free visits?  Please join me in not being bitter.

As much as I would love to share some profound theological truth with you girls I’ve given myself permission to be silly for a couple of days because my brain has been fried the better part of March. I just got back from St. Simons Island, GA where I got to hang out with the South Georgia United Methodist Ministry Spouses.  I loved them so but I won’t share too much about it yet because I have some beautiful pictures of the retreat center I want to load for a proper recap.  Here’s one teaser – I learned some interesting Hebrew and Greek during an initiation for newcomers.  It was deep.

In the meantime I’m waiting on my nails to grow.  I’ve had acrylics since before the first of the year and was ready to be done with them for a while.  It doesn’t matter how often I take them off I still suffer from the delusion that I can somehow save my natural nails that have grown out underneath.  Whatever.  I have boy nails again and decided to embrace them by painting  them Plum Black.  If anyone has any connections to the polish industry, I’d love a job naming colors. As if you would tell me about it instead of taking it yourself.

Looking toward the end of the week, y’all be certain to come back on Friday when we introduce the first guest blogger to the site.  Rachel will have more on that but to celebrate the occasion, there will be a new music giveaway from one of my favorite artists of all time.  I hope you’ll play along!

Okay, silly time is over.  I have work today before youth class tonight.  Also doing some studying for a cool Mom’s conference in April.  Teaching ‘Mom of War..Children of Peace” based on David’s preparation for Solomon’s future ministry and building of the temple (1 Chronicles 22).  Got a spare prayer?  I’ll take it.  Please and thank you.

Are you in a silly time or one of desperately hard work?   I love to hear what you are up to.  Either way, praying you sense and exude the joy of the Lord in the midst of it.

p.s.  I’m looking for a really pretty blush/nude shade of polish for my boy nails for when I’m not feeling so gothic.  Do any of you have a favorite?
