Important Info for the Locals!
Soon after the tornadoes in April, a feeding unit from Robertsdale Baptist Church came to our aid and served hundreds of meals to all of us who were longing for a warm plate. I gulped mine down like a refugee and haven’t yet forgotten the deliciousness that was their chicken and rice.
Ider Baptist was blessed to host them then and is even more thrilled that they have returned to serve our community once more. I’m writing to thank them and just as importantly, to invite you to participate in the events that are taking place at Ider Baptist this weekend.
Friday night, July 22 at 6 p.m., there will be a Civil Service recognition banquet featuring a fabulous Gulf Coast Seafood boil. If you are a fireman, policeman, utilities worker, paramedic, or serve in any other civil capacity in DeKalb or Jackson County, you are cordially invited to share in this meal. There is no agenda other than to appreciate you and your families for all you have done to serve during the storm aftermath. We are in high hopes that we will see a great many of your faces in attendance.
Saturday from 3-6 p.m. we will host a Festival of Hope for all families of our community. There will be a great many activities for the children as well as a meal, homemade ice cream, and watermelon served. All events are free and again, we are praying like crazy you will come and celebrate God’s graciousness alongside us.
The By His Hands Ministry Center will be opened for extended hours during the next 2 weeks as Ider Baptist enters its “10 Days” Intensive Missions effort. Several months before the storm we felt compelled to serve our local community rather than take our yearly trek to the inner city of Montgomery. Little did we know the Lord was positioning us to be available for continued relief efforts from this tragedy that no doubt is the worst event most people – young or old alike – can remember or will ever face. We are taking applications for projects/assistance and will work tirelessly to do as much as possible to bring relief to those in need. For more information, please contact the church office at 256-632-2425.
Ider Baptist and our friends from Robertsdale hope to see you this weekend!
What a great idea! Our area was just hit by a tornado on May 22 (Joplin, MO) and this is a fantastic ministry idea for the future. I hope you’ll share more with us after the event!
